Athenian Self Defense Woman's Self Defense Seminars: Specializing in College Campus Violence Prevention

We have compiled a few answers to the most frequently asked questions we receive. The list below will continue to grow as we add more questions to it.

How is your system different from other Self Defense programs?
Most self defense programs concentrate on striking for self protection. Our system focuses on grappling, choke escapes, and defensive positioning to save oneself from attack. We feel this philosophy is more applicable in more situations than simply kicking and punching and yelling “Stranger Danger”.

How much does your program cost or what are the fees associated with them?
The fees for our programs are dependent upon many factors. Most notably how many participants will be involved, length of event, and travel costs. We can estimate a fee based on minimum and maximum amounts for each. We also recommend that event hosts use philanthropic funds or get corporate sponsors to cover the fees for the participants as opposed to having them pay individually. This always creates a win-win situation for all parties involved.

What is your take on carrying mace, tazers, etc.?
Defensive weapons such as mace and tazers are really only useful if you have them in your hand at the moment of attack. These items are useless in stopping an attack if they are in the bottom of a purse. We feel that only relying on this form of protection will leave you with a false sense of security that limits your overall effectiveness in preventing attacks.

Where is your academy located?
Our program is designed to be an onsite service that is mobile. Therefore we do not lease a building with space to perform seminars. We come to you! Our instructors are based out of St. Louis, MO and often teach weekly classes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at various locations in that area.
